Emma was a guest at a wedding that I captured of my long-time friends Aaron and Brian. I actually remembered photographing her at the wedding as her eyes were such an intense shade of blue and I was drawn to capture a few close up shots of her family.

Emma's family had not had a family shoot since 2017, so it was long overdue. She said she really liked the natural and happy photos she'd seen me capture and she wanted that for her family, before her eldest daughter was having her teeth reconstructed. She was keen to capture her daughters' stunning blue eyes ... and I was equally as excited!

She told me that they are not really a 'dress' family and that they would all be wearing jeans or pants. We decided on timeless knitted jumpers for the girls that would keep them warm, since we were shooting an hour before sunset at the beach. It's still winter, so as soon as the sun disappears it can get a bit chilly!

Stuart, the family dog was originally coming, but since he's a bit anxious in public, Emma decided to leave him at home.

Just as we arrived at our location the clouds gathered overhead and I felt a few drops of rain, so we grabbed the clear umbrellas from the car. By the time we'd walked to the beach, the rain had disappeared and the cloudy sky gave us a beautiful softbox of light.

I handed the girls my portable speaker and they put on their favourite playlist. We captured some stunning photos as we made our way along the backshore and even discovered a picturesque grassy backdrop with a well-placed log that I hadn't seen before. It was perfect for our blue eye'd close ups.

The girls weren't too keen on paddling in the shallows so we ended the session with a climb on the huge fallen branch and a 'vogue' pose.

An absolutely perfect evening with not a mozzie in sight, no wind and a gorgeous sunset to enjoy as we strolled back to our cars.
